GuanaRep BV

GuanaRep BV is a spin-off of the Amsterdam UMC that works on the development of a treatment for the rare and hereditary neurological disease Vanishing White Matter. Over the past 30 years prof. dr. Marjo van der Knaap has been involved in the identification of the disease pattern as well as finding the underlying genetic defect and unraveling the mechanism of action. GuanaRep will continue the development of the old hypertensive Guanabenz as a potential new treatment for these patients. By repurposing this old drug, Marjo van der Knaap and the team, supported by “Medicijn voor de Maatschappij”,  hope to bring a first medicine on the market for the currently untreatable disease at a price that ensures access for all patients around the world.
